Abernethy Golf Club - Nethy Bridge
The story of golf in Nethy Bridge opened its first chapter on July 1st 1893 when a group of around 30 golfers travelled down from Inverness to experience the new course. We are proud members of The 1893 Club, a group of more than 50 clubs worldwide all founded in 1893. Modern day visitors often ask why it was named Abernethy rather than Nethy Bridge since it is situated in that village. Historically however the parish name, Abernethy, was much more commonly used. The village name Nethy Bridge was imposed upon reluctant parishioners when the postal service was introduced to the area.
We are one of the High 9s – 9 9 hole Clubs across the Highlands where you can enjoy quality golf in unforgettable Highland settings. So how about a golfing tour starting in the Cairngorms National Park, maybe arriving via the Snow Roads and continuing north to the North Coast 500? Or stay local and enjoy a whisky tour?
Our course is suitable for golfers of all standards and experience. Visitors looking for a relaxed and casual game will cope perfectly well with the friendly course layout with few man-made hazards but lots of natural ones. Low handicappers will need to bring their very best short game to score well.
Families are welcome and handicap certificates are not required.
The golf course is home to many wildlife species. Red squirrels abound in the forest bordering the fairways, pine martens are regular visitors, curlews nest between the seventh and eighth holes, with oystercatchers at the eighth. Golfers may even glimpse an osprey flying over the course carrying a fish to feed its young at the famous Loch Garten nest – a rare birdie indeed.

Meet our Captain
I’d like to personally welcome you to Abernethy Golf Club in my home village of Nethy Bridge. My name is Rona Smith and I am very proud to be the Club’s first female captain.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, informal and inclusive club with golf open to all. We have Seniors, Ladies and Juniors Sections each catering for the particular interests of those groups. I am particularly keen to encourage youngsters to take up golf and would be delighted to welcome families to come and experience golf on our course.
I’ve been playing golf most of my life here in Nethy and also at our neighbouring course at Boat of Garten Golf Club. I play an active role in Club management and also run our junior coaching sessions on a Friday afternoon for local school children.
I look forward to welcoming you to our naturally beautiful Nethy Bridge course.
Rona x
