Special thanks to Gourock Golf Club for allowing us use of these tutorial videos and more specifically Gordon Crae.
R&A have allowed Clubs to use digital scoring during Covid-19 relaxed restrictions – here is the statement from R&A:
“….. The principles in the Rules that apply to paper scorecards need to apply equally to digital methods of scoring. These principles include the requirement for each player to have an independent marker who is responsible for his or her scorecard during the round. This is covered in Rule 3.3b, which requires that the player’s score is kept on his or her scorecard by the marker and that after each hole during the round, the marker should confirm with the player the number of stokes on that hole (including strokes made and penalty strokes) and enter that gross score on the scorecard.
Scottish Golf have enabled online scoring via their Scottish Golf app. In anticipation of rolling out competition entry, check in and scoring more widely, members may find these tutorial videos helpful.
With the introduction of the new World Handicapping System, the Council of National Golf Unions (“Congu”) have put together a simple guide, providing golfers in Great Britain and Ireland with a high-level overview of the World Handicap System and the Rules of Handicapping.
A copy of the guide is here.
Although our Clubhouse remains closed, you don’t need to go hungry or thirsty or travel far. Just along the road from the Club there are several options ranging from the village shop with some take away offerings, Nethy House for light meals and refreshments and the Nethy Bridge Hotel whose Bridge Lounge and Bar offers a comprehensive bar menu plus a restaurant option, afternoon teas and numerous other special offers. And if you arrive hungry, why not try one of their breakfasts before your game?
NB: Due to current restrictions, not all facilities are fully open.
Our Marketing Group member and Junior Captain, Ernie Smith, ran a photo competition over the summer season. Thank you to all of the keen photographers for their submissions using the hashtag #NethyGolf. We had lots of wonderful entries of images of our naturally beautiful Nethy Bridge course. It’s wonderful to be able to take advantage of the camera technology in our pockets to capture magnificent moments!
We had one absolutely outstanding image submitted on Facebook by local golfer John McCook. The photography captures our iconic 8th hole beautifully, highlighting the monument with the sky alive with the aurora borealis. We loved the way John was actually in the image, admiring the Northern Lights. John is a Leisure Supervisor at Highlife Highland, Personal Trainer and enjoys golf and photography in his spare time.
John was presented with his prize of champagne (via his dad and professional photographer Sandy McCook) by Club Captain, Rona Smith. John was delighted with his prize and is looking forward to celebrating with his girlfriend over the festive season.
Now’s a great time to try golf on our course. From 1 October 2020 until 31st March 2021 our Winter Season Ticket will enable you to play our course throughout the winter (weather permitting!).
