At our Club Championships over the weekend, windy conditions on the Saturday kept the scores on the high side and few strokes separated the leaders in both the men’s and ladies’ competitions. By Sunday the wind had dropped, the sun was shining and most players scored better on Day 2.
In the Men’s competition Kevin Strathdee with 2 very steady rounds was the clear front runner becoming Men’s 2022 Champion. Second lowest gross score and winner of the Handicap Trophy with a good Day 2 comeback was Ian Sloan. Alex Donald, a strong contender at the end of Day 1, was unable to capitalise and finished with 2nd prize, with John Lunn 3rd. Also returning a better Day 2 score was Handicap runner-up Scott Wright. 3rd Handicap place went to Steve Gannon with an excellent Day 2 score improvement.
In the Ladies’ Championship only 5 strokes separated the first three players at the end of Day 1. A 6-stroke improvement in her Day 2 score saw Linda Gillies become Ladies’ 2022 Champion. With two very steady rounds and a strong contender after Day 1, runner-up position went to Moira Simpson. Holding her overnight 3rd place was Susan Swinden. In the Ladies’ Handicap section, helped by an excellent Day 1 score, the front runner and winner of the Handicap Trophy was Margaret Smith . Another below-par Day 1 score helped Rona Smith to take the runner-up place. In 3rd position was June Clark.
