To start the week a team of 8 ladies played the annual match at home against Boat of Garten ladies, which resulted in a draw and so Abernethy, being the current holders, retained the trophy for 2022. Well done to our team.
Another match on Tuesday, this time at Rothes, when teams from Abernethy, Carrbridge and Rothes contested the deciding round of the annual Tri-club event. Carrbridge claimed the trophy for 2022 with 836 points, 2nd were Abernethy with 819 points and 3rd were Rothes with 754 points.
The Seniors played the regular 9-hole Stableford on Thursday and yet again the first three placed competitors all returned below-par scores. Scooping 1st place was Charles Legge (20 points), In 2nd place was Alan Searle (19pts) and on a countback Bob Mouat (19pts) was in 3rd place.
On Saturday a team of 8 players ventured south to play the away leg of the annual match against Dalmeny Estate Golf Club at South Queensferry. Undeterred by the blustery conditions and short but tricky course, the Abernethy team came home victors by 2½ to 1½. No doubt the Dalmeny team will be seeking revenge at Abernethy in the return match next month.
The week ended with 4 teams of junior golfers from Abernethy, Boat of Garten, Kings of Inverness and Nairn Golf Clubs playing the 2nd round of this season’s GolfSixes Highland South League organised by Scottish Golf. Boat of Garten were highest scorers on the day which put them into overall lead with a cumulative total of 7 points and a narrow margin of 1 point over Abernethy (6pts), followed by Nairn (4.5pts) and Kings (2.5pts). With 2 rounds still to go there is still all to play for.
