The week saw the Club Championships being contested with 36 holes played over 2 days at the weekend. 19 men and 8 ladies competed for the respective trophies. Scott Waitt led the men’s field by 5 strokes after Round 1, scoring Gross 72, he continued his steady play in Round 2 with a Gross 73, to take the crown by 10 strokes with a score of 142. Hot on his heels on both days was Kevin Strathdee with a Gross 77 in Round 1 and Gross 78 in Round 2. Alex Donald was in 3rd place with a Gross 161.
Junior Member Thomas Dingwall (17) won the 1st Handicap trophy on net 131 with two excellent scores of 67 and 64, the latter 2 strokes below par. 2nd place in the handicap event, only 2 strokes behind the winner, was John Swinden (22) with a net 133, scoring a Day 1 net 63, 3 strokes below par, and a Day 2 net 70.
In the Ladies Championship, Sheena Hendrie shot a Gross 95 in Round 1, to lie 5 strokes behind Day 1 leader, Susan Swinden on Gross 90. Sheena kept her cool, clawed back the 5 strokes and added another to win with a Gross 182 winning by 1 stroke from Susan. Susan’s Round 1 Gross 90 and Round 2 Gross 93 gave her a final score of 183.
The Ladies’ 1st Handicap trophy was lifted by Jean Gordon (31) with net 70 and 74. The runner-up in the Ladies’ competition was June Clark (23) with net 74 and 71.
In the Junior Championships later in the week, it was a family affair with keen competition between Luke, Michael, Joseph and Thomas Dingwall, grandsons of John and Helen Dingwall. The 4 boys played in the 2-day scratch competition for the Junior Championship trophy over 36 holes. Thomas and Michael were tied on 80 after Day 1. Thomas kept up his steady play with an 82 on Day 2 to claim the Championship by 5 strokes over runner-up Michael.
