Week ending Sunday 1st June

On Monday, the ladies played the second round of Pauline’s Trophy.   The 9 hole stableford event was won by Pamela MacLeod (28) 17 pts; runner-up was Margaret Smith (21) 15 pts bih and third was Emma McLeod (36) 15 pts.     The seniors Tuesday Special 9 club challenge was won by Hamish Fraser with 17 pts and the weekly 9 hole stableford on Thursday was won by Charles Grant with 21 pts.    On Sunday, the men played their June Medal.     The winner was Alex Donald (15) 67, runner-up was Jim Brady (18) 69 and third was Gordon Smith (15) 70.


Week ending Sunday 25th May


On Monday, the ladies played their Extra May Medal. The only lady to cope with the difficult conditions was Jane Kerr (31) who carded a net 70 for a one stroke cut to her handicap. Runner-up was Margaret Smith (21) and third was Eliz Sloan (17) both with net 74. The seniors 9 hole stableford on Thursday was won by Charles Legge with 21 points. On Friday, the juniors played their May Medal. Winner was Bruce Grant (18) 63 and runner-up was Kalen Clark (25) 71. Bruce also has a one stroke cut to his handicap. On Sunday, the men and ladies were in action. In the morning, the men played the Belhaven Qualifying Medal. The winner was Alasdair Bisset (19) 68 bih, runner-up was Ian Sloan (11) 68 and third was John Lilley (18) 69. Alasdair being a junior is ineligible for the regional finals so the club will be represented by Ian Sloan and John Lilley at Aboyne in August. In the afternoon, the ladies competed for the Fraser Cup. The winner with 37 points and a one stroke cut to her handicap was Susan MacLaren (30); runner-up was Kate Wright (28) 32 pts bih and third was Marie Hughes (23) 32 pts.

Week ending Sunday 18th May

On Monday, the ladies played for the SLGA Brooch combined with a putting competition. The brooch was won by Pamela MacLeod (28) 66. The runner-up was Jane Kerr (31) with 70 bih. Third was Heather Bantick (23) 70 who also won the putting with a total of 26 putts. The seniors 9 hole stableford on Thursday was keenly contested with four players on 19 points but the winner on countback was Tom Christie. On Sunday, the men played for the Norman Stone Salver. The clear winner was John Dingwall (13) 62 followed by six players with a net 65. Thankfully, the computer is able to rank them and it declared Ian Murray Snr (18) the runner-up with Alex Donald (15) in third place.

Week ending Sunday 11th May

On Monday, the ladies played their May Medal. The winner was Susan MacLaren (30) 70; runner-up was Helen Fraser (36) 71bih and third was Jean Gordon (22) 71. The seniors 9 hole stableford on Thursday was won by Joy Johnston with 21 points. The ladies were also in action on Thursday when they welcomed the Grantown ladies to Abernethy for a friendly match. The Abernethy ladies won the match 4-0 then everyone enjoyed a social evening. On Sunday, the men and ladies played for the Fowler Cup. In a mixture of heavy showers, light showers and sunshine, Howard Edge, who is currently enjoying a run of good form, took the trophy with a net 63 and saw his handicap reduced from 18 to 17. Runner-up was Bob Mouat (16) 65 and third was Haydn Hughes (15) 66.

Week ending Sunday 4th May

On Monday, the ladies played the first round of Paulines Trophy. This 9 hole stableford event was won by Marie Hughes (23) 19 pts; runner-up was Helen Fraser (36) 17 pts and third was Dorothy McDonald (16) 17 pts. The seniors end of month special was “Mulligans” won by Denis Johnston and Thursdays weekly 9 hole stableford was won by Helen Fraser with 20 points. The men completed the week’s competitions with their May Medal on Sunday. The winner was Howard Edge (18) 64, runner-up was Ian Murray Snr (18) 66 and third was Gordon Smith (15) 68.

Week ending Sunday 27th April

On Monday, the ladies played their April Extra Medal. The winner was Aileen Morgan (32) 68, runner-up was Susan Swinden (21) 70 and third was Heather Bantick (22) 75. On Wednesday, the ladies played Carrbridge ladies. Taking full advantage of playing at home, the Abernethy Ladies won the match to retain the Bridges Challenge Trophy. On Thursday, the seniors weekly 9 hole stableford was won by David Kerr with 20 points. On Sunday, the men competed for the Speyside Sports Trophhy. In a day of very mixed fortunes, the winner was Howard Edge (19) 63, the runner-up was John Lilley (19) 64 and third was Ian Murray Snr (18) 65. John Dingwall, with the lowest gross score of 81 buffered but, apart from these four, all other players were well outside their buffer zones.

On Monday, the ladies fun competition was the ever popular “Mulligans”, which was won by Heather Bantick. The seniors weekly 9 hole stableford was won by Eliz Sloan with 18 points. On Sunday, the men competed for the Helensburgh Shield in glorious sunshine. The winner with 40 points was John Lilley (20); runner-up was Peter Wood (20) with 36 pts and third was Ian Murray Snr (18) with 34 pts.

On Monday, the ladies Hidden Hole competition was won by Margaret Smith. The seniors weekly 9 hole stableford on Thursday was won by Jane Kerr with 18 points. On Friday, the juniors played their first medal of the season. The winner was Conor Philip (36) 62bih and runner-up was Thomas Dingwall (39) 62. Both boys have a two stroke cut to their handicap. On Sunday, the men and ladies played for the Nethybridge Hotel Cup. The combination of strong winds and early season form meant only three players were in their buffer zone. The winner was Allan Bantick (11) 66 bih; runner-up was Howard Edge (19) 66 and third was John Lilley (20) 68.

Week ended 6 April 2014

On Monday, the ladies played a fun 9 holes, which was won by Jane Kerr. The Seniors commenced their weekly 9 hole stablefords on Thursday. The winner was the new Seniors' Convenor, Eliz Sloan with 18 points. On Sunday both men and ladies played their April Medals. The men’s was won by Alex Donald (15) 67; runner-up was Charles Grant (20) 67 and third was Allan Bantick (11) also 67. The ladies competition was won by Susan Swinden (21) 72, runner-up was Heather Bantick (22) 78 and third was Margaret Smith (20) 78.

The flag was raised on Sunday 30th March for the start of the season with a traditional toast. The usual Captain v Lady Captain match was then played. This year the Captain won his own match but lost the overall contest. During the winter, an ongoing winter eclectic has been running and the winner of that competition was Ian Morris; in joint second place with identical scores were Denis Johnston and David Carrott.
