Results for the week ending Sunday 3rd October

On Monday, the ladies final Monday competition was a Captain’s Surprise won by Susan MacLaren. The seniors weekly 9 hole stableford was won by Elizabeth Fleming with 21 points. On Saturday, the juniors played their final competition of the season. The Babie Douglas Trophy was won by Daniel Thom (10) 71bih; runner-up was Colin Mouat (26) 71. On Sunday, the men and ladies both played their October medal. The men’s competition was won by Mike Wright (14) 63; runner-up was Howard Edge (19) 66. The ladies competition was won by Heather Bantick (28) 74; runner-up was Rona Smith (23) 75. During the week, the men’s singles knock-out competition was completed. Haydn Hughes won the Cumming Cup beating Charlie MacDonald in the final.

Results for the week ending Sunday 26th September
On Monday, the ladies played their monthly 9 hole stableford, which was won by Heather Bantick with 15 points from Margaret Smith 13 points. On Sunday, the men played for the Rosebowl Trophy. Winner with a splendid 61 and a 2 stroke cut in his handicap was Howard Edge (21), runner-up was Kevin Strathdee (5) 67 and third was Haydn Hughes (16) 68.

Results for the week ending Sunday 19th September
On Monday, the ladies played a 9 hole Texas Scramble that was won by the team of Rona Smith, Jean Gordon, Pamela MacLeod and Heather Bantick On Tuesday, the Seniors had their annual outing this year to Blair Atholl and the competition was won by Kate Wright with 40 points. On Thursday, the regular Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Kate Wright with 23 points. On Sunday, the men played a Bogey competition which was won by John Dingwall (13) one up (bih) and runner up was Roy Quinn (15) also one up. The ladies played their September Extra Medal as a 9 hole stableford due to the weather. Winner with 16 points bih was Jean Gordon from Rona Smith also 16 points. During the week, the men’s foursomes knockout competition was completed with David and Daniel Thom winning the Grantown Salver from John Dingwall and Terry Sayer, the ladies singles knockout competition was completed with Marie Hughes winning the Malcolm Salver from Heather Bantick and the mixed foursomes was completed with Jim Brady and Christine Reynolds winning the Bantick Trophies from Daniel Thom and Sally Thom.

Results for the week ending Sunday 12th September
On Monday, in extremely windy conditions, the ladies monthly medal was won by Jean Gordon (25) 76 bih from Dorothy McDonald (13) 76; third was Sheila Fraser (24) 79. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Jane Kerr with 20 points. On Sunday, the over 50 Frame Trophy was won for the second year running by Kate Wright (34+2) with 62, second was Kevin Strathdee (5) with 63 and third was Lynne Sayer (30+2) with 66. During the week, the men’s 4 ball better ball knockout competition was completed with Roy Quinn and Charles MacDonald winning the Mitchell Shield from David and Daniel Thom.

Results for the week ending Sunday 5th September
On Monday the ladies monthly 9 hole stableford was won on countback by Marion McCook with 20 points from Pamela MacLeod also with 20 points. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Charles Grant with 18 points. On Sunday, the men’s medal was won by Kevin Strathdee (5) 64, runner-up was Charles Grant (19) 69. This was the last counting medal for the season’s Greenkeepers Cup which was won by Kevin Strathdee with a four medal total of 260. During the week, the first of the match play competitions was decided when Dot McDonald and Ena Meldrum beat Aileen Morgan and Heather Bantick on the 18th hole to win the ladies foursomes.

On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Lynne Sayer with 23 points. Sunday was the day of the Louise Mixed Foursomes Open. Winners of the trophy were Ian Murray and Sheila Grant (Abernethy) with 64.5 bih, runners up were George and Hazel Flynn (Torvean) also with 64.5 and third place was taken by Peter Boyce-Kenyon and Pamela McLeod (Abernethy) with 67.5. The best scratch score was by Daniel and Sally Thom (Abernethy) with 79.

Results for the week ending Sunday 22nd August
The ladies played their August Extra Medal on Monday. Winner was Heather Bantick (28) 67, runner-up was Dawn Ferguson (12) 70 and third was Aileen Morgan (29) 71. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Allan Bantick with 20 points. On Friday, the Junior August Medal was won by Tom Bisset (30) 60, runner-up was Andrew Strathdee (15) 62. On Saturday, the ladies competed for the Robinson Tray. Winner was Rona Smith with 40 points, runner-up was Kate Wright with 37 pts bih and Aileen Morgan was third with 37 pts. Sunday was the day of the Texas Scramble Open. Winner of the Cairngorms National Park Trophy was the team of “Malcy’s Turks” comprising Malcolm McCreath, Matthew Kirkwood, Callum McLennan and Callum Moir with a score of 51.4. Runners up were “The Clanger’s Clowns” comprising Kevin Strathdee, Peter Strathdee, Andrew Strathdee and Aileen Morgan with a score of 52.8

Results for the week ending Sunday 15th August

The ladies played the third and final round of their eclectic competition on Monday. Winner of the Eclectic Shield was Ena Meldrum, runner-up was Frances Turner. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Jane Kerr with 18 points. On Friday, the Family Texas Scramble was won by the Hay Smith family of Brian, Debbie, Mikey and Eilidh. Sunday was the Men’s Open. Winner of the Walter Grant Trophy for the best scratch score was John Campbell (Grantown) with 66, runner up was James Grant (Boat of Garten) with 68. Winner of the main competition and the McKenzie Trophy was Colin Mouat (Abernethy) (27) with 65 bih, runner up was Nicholas Linehan (Stourbridge) (9) with 65 and third was Malcolm McCreath (Boat of Garten) (13) also with 65.

The ladies played their August medal on Monday. Winner was Lynne Sayer (30) 67, runner-up was Debbie Hay Smith (10) 68, third was Heather Bantick (28) 73. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Heather Bantick with 23 points. On Sunday the men and ladies competed for the Laing Trophy. Runaway winner with 44 points was John McCook (8), runner-up was Mike Wright (14) 38 points bih and third was Brian Hay-Smith (10) also with 38 points.

Results for the week ending Sunday 1st August

The ladies played their extra medal in very wet conditions. Winner was Dot McDonald (12) 75, runner-up was Margaret Smith (21) 78. On Tuesday the seniors and juniors combined for a 9 hole Texas Scramble. The winning team was Ian Hill, Allan Bantick and Oliver Sykes with a gross 30. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Hamish Fraser with a magnificent 25 points. Thursday was also the Junior Open. The scratch winner was Calum Hill (Muckhart) with 70. The trophy went to Ian McKellar (Grantown) (17) with 60, runner up was Jacob Sellars (Grantown) (28) with 61 and in third place was Daniel Neilson (Aberdour) (14) with 62. On Saturday, the juniors competed for the McLeod Cup. Winner was Ian Hill (14) 66, runner-up was Eilidh Hay Smith (44) 67 bih and in third place was Adair Montgomery (16) 67. Sunday was the men’s medal competition. Winner was David Montgomery (20) 56, runner-up was Kevin Strathdee (6) 62 and equal third were Brian Montgomery (10) and Brian Hay-Smith (10) both with 63.

Results for the week ending Sunday 25th July
Following the exertions of the club championship, the ladies started the week with a 9 hole yellow ball competition which was won by the team of Gillian Mitchell, Susan MacLaren, Fiona MacLaren and Meg Smith. On Tuesday, the Seniors took on their counterparts from Carrbridge. Home advantage won the day with a 4-2 result in favour of Abernethy. On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Charles Grant with 20 points. On Saturday the juniors competed for the Humber Glover Trophy. The winner was Kalen Clark (54) 57 nett and a new handicap of 48; runner-up was Adair Montgomery (18) 61 nett and a new handicap of 16! The men completed the week with a stableford competition for the Bob Douglas Trophy. Winner was Calum Hill, setting a new junior course record of 64 scoring 41 points; runner-up was Haydn Hughes 39 points bih and third was Peter Boyce-Kenyon also with 39 points.

The ladies July medal was won by Lynne Sayer (31) 72 net, runner-up was Ena Meldrum (20) 73 net and third was Dot McDonald (12) 74 net. The final Midsummer 9 hole stableford was won by Kevin Strathdee with 21 points, overall winner of the series was Marie Hughes with 29 eclectic points. The seniors weekly 9 hole stableford was won by Lynne Sayer with 23 points. The junior medal on Friday was won by Tom Bisset (53) 53 net. On Sunday men and ladies competed for the Gordon Cup which was won by Christine Reynolds (28+2) 62 net, runner-up was Jim Brady (16) 65 net bih and third was Mike Wright (14) 65 net.

Results for the week ending Sunday 4 July
Joint winners of the ladies 2 club competition on Monday were Margaret Smith and Gillian Mitchell. On Tuesday the ladies travelled to Boat and won the inter-club match. The fourth Midsummer 9 hole stableford was won by Heather Bantick with 18 points, runner-up with 16 points was Marie Hughes on countback from Kevin Strathdee also with 16 points. The Seniors Open on Thursday, which is a joint competition, was won for the first time in its history by a lady when Aileen Morgan (29) returned a net 64. Runner-up was Christine Reynolds (28) 65 net bih and third was Vaughan Ralph (12) 65 net. The scratch prizes both went to Boat of Garten players, Lewis MacBean taking the men’s prize with a gross 75 and Peasha Ingram taking the ladies prize with a gross 85. On Sunday the men played their July medal. Winner was Roy Quinn (15) with 67, Runner Up was Kevin Strathdee (6) with 69 and third was Allan Bantick (11) with 70.

Winner was Margaret Smith (23) with a magnificent 63 and a two stroke cut in her handicap! Runner-up was Ena Meldrum (21) 70 and third was Gillian Mitchell (15) 71. On Sunday the men competed for the Centenary Trophy, which was won by Neil Williams (19) with 59, second was Douglas Walker (14) with 63 and third was Scott Boughen (8) with 66 .

On Monday the Ladies medal was won by Lynne Sayer (32) 73 net; runner-up was Ena Meldrum (20) 75 net. The first Midsummer 9 hole stableford, played in anything but summer weather, was won on countback by Christine Reynolds (30) from Haydn Hughes (17) both with 16 points. The Seniors Thursday 9 hole stableford was won by Charles Grant with 19 pts. On Sunday men and ladies competed for the Ben Flood Trophy (Stableford), which was won by Charles Legge with 39 points, second was John Lilley with 37 points and third was Kevin Strathdee with 36 points.

On Monday the Ladies monthly 9 hole stableford was won by Margaret Smith with 18 pts, runner-up was Gillian Mitchell with 17 pts. The Seniors Thursday 9 hole stableford was won by Charles Legge with 21 pts. The ladies played an inter-club match on Thursday against Grantown at Grantown and won 3 –1. On Saturday, the ladies played for the Mustard Trophy. Winner of the trophy was Elizabeth Sloan (16) 70, runner-up was Christine Reynolds (30) 71 and in third place was Heather Bantick (27) 73. Sunday was the men’s monthly medal, which was won by Kevin Strathdee (6) 67 with runner-up James Brady (15) 74.

Results for the week ending Sunday 30th May

On Monday the Ladies played their Coronation Foursomes. Winners with 43 points were Hannah McCook and Marion McCook; runners-up were Gillian Mitchell and Susan MacLaren with 39 points and third were Margaret Smith and Sally Thom with 34 points. Hannah and Marion go on to represent the club at a Regional Final. The Seniors 9 hole Stableford on a cold, wet Thursday was won by Stan Morgan with 15 points On Saturday, still wet, the ladies played for the Fraser Cup which was won by Susan MacLaren (34) with an amazing 45 points. Runner-up was Gillian Mitchell (14) with 36 pts and third was Ena Meldrum (20) 31 pts. On Sunday the men played the Belhaven Medal. Winner was Howard Edge (22) 66; runner-up was Kevin Strathdee (6) 71bih; third was Allan Bantick (10) 71.

On Monday, the ladies played their May Extra Medal.   Winner was Jane Kerr (34) 65; runner-up was Lynne Sayer (32) 69 bih and third was Sheila Fraser (22) 69.   Jane's handicap is now 32!  On Thursday, the Seniors 9 hole Stableford was won by Helen Fraser with 24 points.   Sunday was the Ladies Open Day.   The scratch trophy went to Keri McGann with a gross 80.   The handicap trophy went to Sally Thom (12) 66; runner-up was Dawn Ferguson (12) 69, third was Susan MacLaren 34) 70 bih and fourth was Christie Ferguson (36) 70.

Results for the week ending Sunday 16th May

On Monday the Ladies competition had to be shortened to a nine hole Stableford due to bad weather. The winner was Margaret Smith with 16 points, second was Helen Fraser with 14 points and third was Kate Wright with 13 points. The event incorporated a putting competition which was jointly won by Margaret Smith and Gillian Mitchell both with 15 putts. The Thursday Seniors Stableford competition was won by Ian Wilson with 25 points. On Sunday the Men and Ladies played for the Fowler Cup. The winner was Jim Brady (16) with 62, runner up was Brian Hay-Smith (10) with 65 and third place was taken by Ena Meldrum (20+2) with 68 bih.

Results for the week ending Sunday 9th May

The ladies medal on Monday was won by Dawn Ferguson (12) with net 67, runner-up was Susan MacLaren (34) with net 74. The Seniors 9 hole Stableford on Thursday was won by Robin Nettle with 23 points. On Sunday, the club held an Open Mixed Foursomes Competition in aid of the charity Sight Action. Prizes were presented by Anne MacLean, Acting Chair of Sight Action. The winners were Colin Small (Nairn) and Maureen Small (Fortrose) (18) with 67, runners up were Allan and Heather Bantick (Abernethy Golf Club) (18.5) with 67.5 and the scratch prize was won by Stephen and Daphne Ritchie (Grantown) with 82.

The ladies monthly 9 hole stableford on Monday was won by Kate Wright (34) 18pts bih from Heather Bantick (27). On Sunday, the men competed in their May Medal. Winner was Kevin Strathdee (6) with a net 67 and runner up was Charlie MacDonald (17) with a net 68.

Results for the week ending 25th April

On Monday the Ladies Extra medal was won by Jane Kerr (36) with a nett 68. Jane's handicap was cut to 34.   Runner-up was Gillian Mitchell (14) 71.  On Thursday, Jane continued her good form winning the Seniors 9 hole stableford with 24 points.   On Saturday, the ladies outing saw the ladies heading off to Kinloss where the competition was won by Susan McLaren with an amazing 43 points.   On Sunday, the men played for the Speyside Sports Trophy.   The scoring was very low and the competition was won by Ian Murray Snr (16) with a nett 62, runner-up was Ron Thornhill (18) 63 and third was Haydn Hughes (18) 66bih.

Results for the week ending Sunday 18th April

The ladies April Medal on Monday was won by Sally Thom (12) 68, runner-up was Gillian Mitchell (14) 71. The Seniors 9 hole Stableford on Thursday was won with a record breaking 31 points by Celia Bloomfield. On Saturday the Open Mixed Greensomes for the Lorne Trophy was won by Ena Meldrum and Peter Strathdee with 63.2, runners up were Rhona and Neil Bain 63.6 bih and in third place were Gillian and Bob Mitchell also with 63.6.  On Sunday the men played for the Helensburgh Stableford Shield and Peter Strathdee (20) continued his run of good form winning the Shield with 36 points bih from John MacLennan (18) also with 36 pts. David Thom (10) was third with 34 pts.

Results for the week ending Sunday 11th April

Having lost a week due to snow the Seniors Weekly 9 hole stableford got underway on Thursday. The winter lay-off had clearly not affected everyone as both Helen Fraser and Judith Nettle scored 22 points with Helen winning on countback. On Sunday 11th April the Nethybridge Hotel Trophy was played for in glorious sunshine and the winner was Peter Strathdee (22) with 65 bih, runner up was Allan Bantick (10) also with 65 and third was Ian Sloan (13) with 66.

Sun 28th March 2010 Opening Match

Opening Match

The Golf season at Abernethy got off to a damp and chilly start but there was a decent turn out for the Opening match between teams representing the Captain and the Lady Captain. Despite the wind and sleet the match was held in good spirits and for the second year running, and the fourth time in five years, the Lady Captain triumphed.
