2009 RESULTS

Week Commencing Monday 12th October 2009

On Sunday 18th October 43 players contested the Pat Smith Cup.   The winner was Malcolm McCreath with a nett 64 bih and runner up was Peter Boyce-Kenyon also with 64.   The competition was followed by the Annual Presentation of Prizes.

Week Commencing Monday 5th October 2009

On Thursday the Seniors had their final nine-hole Stableford competition which was won by Ron Thornhill with 22 points.  The Grant Tray for the best eight rounds of the season was won by Jane Kerr.   On Sunday 11th Oct the end of season Greensomes was won by Ena Meldrum and Peter Strathdee with nett 60, second were Charles and Pauline Grant with 60.4 and third were Heather and Allan Bantick with 63.8 bih.

Week Commencing Monday 28th September 2009

On Monday the ladies played the final round of their monthly Stablefords. The winner on the evening was Heather Bantick and the winner of the series was Kate Wright. On Tuesday, the Seniors played a 3 club competition, won by Judith Nettle and on Thursday, they played a two round 9 hole eclectic, won by Charles Legge. Saturday was the final day of the Junior season and before their prizegiving, they played for the Babie Douglas Trophy. In very windy conditions, this was won by Peter Strathdee (22) net 70; runner-up was Jamie Bisset (8) 73 and third was Christie Ferguson (41) 75. On Sunday the men and ladies played their final medals of the season. The men’s medal was won by Allan Bantick (10) with a net 65 and this was enough to also win him the tie-breaker in the season-long Greenkeepers Cup for the best series of medal results. Runner up both in the medal and the Greenkeepers Cup was Andrew Strathdee (14) with 68. The ladies medal was won by Jean Gordon (25) net 75, runner-up was Dawn Ferguson (12) net 77. The LGU Silver Medal was won by Ena Meldrum and the LGU Bronze Medal was won by Heather Bantick.

Week Commencing Monday 21st September 2009

On Monday, the Ladies Flag competition was won by Dorothy McDonald.   Thursday's Seniors 9 hole Stableford was won by Kate Wright with 21 Points.   Kate went on to win the Frame Trophy on Sunday with a net 66, runner-up was Sheila Fraser 67bih and third was John Dingwall also with 67.

Week Commencing Monday 14th September 2009

On Monday the Ladies Texas Scramble was won by the team of Margaret Smith, Brenda Hughes and Heather Bantick.  On Tuesday the Seniors Outing to Rothes was won by Terry Sayer with 32 points, second was Hamish fraser also with 32 points.   Thursday's Seniors 9 hole Stabelford was won by Janette McCool with 23 points.    On Sunday, the Gordon Cup was won by Ron Thornhill (18) 68, runner-up was Kevin Strathdee (6) 71 bih and third was John Dingwall (13) 71.

Week Commencing Monday 7th September 2009

On Monday the Ladies played their monthly Medal; the winner was Ena Meldrum (21) with 66, 2nd was Jean Gordon (25) with 70 and 3rd was Dorothy MacDonald (14) with 71.  The Seniors Thursday Stableford was won by Lynne Sayer with 22 points.   On Friday Andrew Strathdee (14) won the Junior Medal with 66 and his brother Peter (22) was 2nd with 70. On Sunday 13th Sept the Mens Rosebowl was won by Allan Bantick (11) with 64 bih, 2nd was David Kerr (26) also with 64 and 3rd was Peter Strathdee (22) with 67.  Later the same day the Ladies played an Extra Medal; winner was Ena Meldrum (20) with 66, 2nd was Heather Bantick (26) with 71 and 3rd was Lynne Sayer (32) with 73.

Week Commencing Monday 31st August 2009

On Sunday 6th September the men played their monthly medal.  Winner was Andrew Strathdee (16) with a nett 77, 2nd was David Lindgren (15) with 68 and 3rd was Howard Edge (22) with 70.   Also on Sunday  Allan Bantick, Kevin Strathdee and Lewis Traill won the inter-club Junior Coaches Stableford team event at Strathpeffer, organised by Club Golf.

Week Commencing Monday 24th August 2009

On Monday, the Ladies Extra Medal was won by Gillian Mitchell (14) net 71, including a Hole in One at the 11th hole.   Runner-up was Elizabeth Sloan (16) net 72.   The Seniors Hidden Hole competition on Tuesday was won by Stanley Foulkes; the weekly 9 hole stableford on Thursday was won by Stan Morgan with 21 points.  The Louise Mixed Foursomes Open was played on Sunday.   Scratch winners were Roy Quinn and Rona Smith with 84.   The winners of the Louise Trophies were Peter Strathdee (22) and Ena Meldrum (21) net 61.5, runners-up were Stewart Taylor (11) and Olga Taylor (25) net 65.5 and in third place were Liam Mackenzie (27)(Louise's grandson) and Jill Jones (18) net 67.5.

Week Commencing Monday 17th August 2009

On Monday the ladies played the final round of their Eclectic Shield. Heather Bantick (26) took the trophy with a net 61 from Susan McLaren (34) 69 net. On Thursday morning in atrocious conditions, Heather Bantick continued her good form winning the Seniors 9 hole Stableford with 18 points. On Sunday the men and ladies competed for the Laing Trophy. The winner was Peter Strathdee (23) with 39 points, runner up was John Hunter (19) with 38 points and third was Kevin Strathdee (6) with 37 points.

Week Commencing Monday 10th August 2009

On Monday the ladies played their August medal. Winner was Debbie Hay Smith (10) with 67 and runner-up was Fiona Tawse (30) with 72. On Thursday morning, the Seniors 9 hole Stableford was won by Allan Bantick with an impressive 23 points. On Friday, the Junior August medal was won by Bruce Mouat (36) 53; runner-up was Michael Hay Smith (44) 57. Both boys had big cuts to their handicaps! On Sunday morning the men’s Centenary Trophy was won by Alex Donald (12) with 64, runner up was Jim Brady (15) with 68 bih and third was Peter Strathdee (23) also with 68. In the afternoon the ladies competed for the Robinson Tray, which was won by Hannah McCook (5) with 43 points, second was Lynne Sayer (32) with 35 points bih and third was Kate Wright (34) also with 35 points.

Week commencing Monday 3rd August 2009

On Monday the ladies Fraser Cup was won by Marion McCook (31) with 40 points and a cut in her handicap to 29, runner-up was Kate Wright (34) 37pts bih, third was Dawn Ferguson (12) also with 37 pts. On Thursday morning, the seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Ian Wilson with 21 points. On Sunday the Men’s Open was won by Scott Boughen (7) with 61, Runner Up was Ian Murray (6) with 63 and third was Charlie Tawse (13) with 65 bih. The Scratch winner was Gordon Hay with 68.

Week Commencing Monday 27th July 2009

On Monday, the ladies fun 9 hole stableford was combined with a putting competition won by Lynne Sayer with only 16 putts. On Thursday morning, the seniors 9 hole stableford was won by Aileen Morgan with 22 points. On Thursday afternoon, the Junior Open was won by Hannah McCook (5+2) 63, Runner Up was Calum Hill (5) 64 bih and third was Harry Craig (26) also 64. On Saturday the Juniors played for the McLeod Cup which was won by Adair Montomery (27) with 62. Runner Up was Calum Hill (5) with 63 bih and third was Andrew Strathdee (17) also with 63. On Sunday the Men played their monthly medal. Winner was Adair Montgomery (25) with 59, Runner Up was Michael Wright (15) with 66 and in third place was Alex Donald (12) with 68.

Week Commencing Monday 20th July 2009

On Monday the Ladies played their July Extra Medal; Ena Meldrum (20) won with 75, Ann Napier (35) was runner up with 77 and Marie Hughes (30) was third with 79.  The Thursday Seniors Stableford was won by Hamish Fraser with 21 Points.   On Saturday the Juniors played for the Humber Glover Trophy.  Adair Montgomery (28) won with 64 bih, Andrew Strathdee (18) was second also with 64 and David Montgomery (27) was third with 65 bih.   On Sunday the Club staged their annual Open Texas Scramble for the Cairngorms National Park Authority Trophy.   The winning team was the Kinsey family of Anthony, Anthony, Caroline and Sarah with a score of 53.1, second was the Strathdee/Hughes team of Kevin, Andrew and Peter Strathdee plus Marie Hughes with 54.9 and third was "Locker 42" from Grantown on Spey featuring Ian Anderson, another Ian Anderson, Gordon Grant and Willie Lawson.

Week Commencing Monday 13th July 2009

On Tuesday, the Seniors won their challenge against their Carrbridge counterparts 3.5 to 2.5  and the Seniors Thursday Stableford was won by David Kerr with 23 points.   The Junior Medal on Friday was won by Andrew Strathdee (18) net 71.   On Saturday, in extremely wet conditions, the Ladies Beaton Bowl was won by Heather Bantick (26) net 78.  The men's medal on Sunday was won by Bob Mouat (14) net 66 and the runner-up was John Dingwall (12) net 67.

Week Commencing 6th July 2009

The Seniors Open was held on Thursday 9th July.   Gordon Sutherland (23) won the trophy with 62 and Runner Up was John Cleland (12) with 63.  Mens scratch winner was Allan Bantick with 74 and the Ladies scratch winner was Paula Wilson with 99.

The Ladies Open was held on Sunday 12th July.  Marion McCook (32) won the handicap trophy with 65 and her daughter Hannah won the scratch trophy with 75.  Winner of the Silver Divison was Dawn Ferguson (12) with 68 bih, runner up was her aunt Ena Meldrum (20) also with 68.   Winner of the Bronze Divison was Paula Wilson (32) with 71 and runner up was Frances Turner (22) with 72.

Week Commencing 29th June 2009

Club Championship Weekend. On Friday the Junior Championship was won by John McCook with a gross 75. This is John’s fourth consecutive year as Junior Champion. The handicap winner was Peter Maxwell (16) 65. The Ladies Club Champion is Hannah McCook with a gross 154 for the two rounds with Marie Hughes (34) 127 net taking the Handicap trophy. The Club Champion this year is Bruce Calder with a gross 135 for the two rounds with Jim Brady (17) 124 net winning the Handicap trophy.
During the week, the ladies had drawn their friendly match with Boat of Garten 2 – 2, the Seniors 2 Club Competition was won by Stanley Foulkes, the final midsummer stableford was won by Neil White with 20 points and the Seniors stableford was won by Kate Wright with 22 points.

Week Commencing 22nd June 2009

On Monday 22nd the ladies played an Extra Medal and the winner was Moira Calder (29) with 68 bih, Susan MacLaren (36) was second also with 68 and Ena Meldrum (20) was third with 71.
On Tuesday the Men played a Badenoch and Strathspey League match at Boat of Garten and lost 1-5.
The Wednesday 9-hole Stableford was won by Charles Grant with 19 points and the Seniors 9-hole Stableford on Thursday was won by Alison Wood with 22 points.
On Friday the Juniors played a medal and it was won by John Rutledge (24) with 63.
On Sunday 28th the Club staged its second Open of the season - the Charities Mixed Foursomes.  The best scratch score was by Ashley Smith and Andy Todd from Grange, near Dundee with 74.  Winner of the main event was Marie Hughes and Kevin Strathdee with 62.5, second was Sally Thom and Daniel Thom from Caloundra in Australia with 63.5 and third was Dawn Ferguson and Charlie MacDonald with 64.

Week Commencing 15th June 2009

On Monday, the Ladies played the first round of their Eclectic Shield Competition. This was won by Heather Bantick (27) 67; runner-up was Marie Hughes (36) 70 and third was Elizabeth Sloan (18) 71. The Wednesday Midsummer Stableford 3rd round was won by Ron Thornhill with 20 points, runner-up was Charles Grant with 19 pts. On Thursday morning the Seniors Stableford was won by Heather Bantick with 20 points. On Thursday evening, the ladies played a match against Craggan Ladies at Craggan. This is the first time Craggan Ladies have played a match against another club and they made full use of the home advantage winning the tie 4 – 0. On Sunday, the men played an Extra Medal. The winner was Haydn Hughes (20) with 59, Kevin Strathdee (6) was second with 65 and Phil Tempest (25) was third with 67.

Week Commencing 8th June 2009

On Monday 8th June the Abernethy Ladies played the Grantown Ladies at Abernethy and won 3 - 1.   The mid-summer Wednesday 9-hole Stableford was rained off!  On Thursday the Seniors Stableford was won by David Kerr with 21 points.  On Sunday 14th June the Ladies and Men played a Stableford competition for the Ben Flood Trophy; the winner was Andrew Strathdee (18) with 39 points, second was Ian Murray (6) with 38 points bih and third was Vishu (12) also with 38 points.

Week Commencing 1st June 2009

The week started with the Ladies Monthly Medal, which was won by Ena Meldrum (20) 68bih; runner-up was Marge Kane (36) 68 and third was Eliz Sloan (18) 69. Wednesday saw the first of our Midsummer Stableford Qualifying Competitions over 9 holes. This was won by Pauline Grant with 21 points earning a handicap cut from 32 to 31, second was Andrew Strathdee with 18 pts. The Seniors weekly stableford on Thursday was won by Jane Kerr with 23 pts. The week ended with the Men’s Monthly Medal, which was won by Jim O’Hara (11) 61 (handicap cut to 10), runner-up was Allan Bantick (11) 66 and third was Malcolm McLennan (11) 67.

Week Commencing 25th May 2009

On Monday 25th the Ladies played a nine-hole Stableford - Lynne Sayer won with 19 points.
In the Seniors Thursday Stableford Mike Wright won with 24 points.
On Friday the Junior Medal was won by Andrew Strathdee (19) with 67.
On Sunday 31st May the Men played the Belhaven qualifying medal and Russell Ferguson (11) won with 64 bih and Andrew Strathdee(19) was second, also with 64.

Week Commencing 18th May 2009

The week began with the Ladies Extra Medal, during which Ann Napier had a Hole-In-One.  The winner was Maureen Thomas (20) with 72, second was Gillian Mitchell (13) 73 and third was Ann Napier (36) 74.
The Seniors Thursday Stableford was won by Elizabeth Fleming with 24 points.
On Saturday 23rd May the Ladies contested the Mustard Trophy.  The winner was Pamela MacLeod (35) 68, second place went to Margaret Smith (21) 72 bih and third was Sheila Grant (30) also with 72.

 

On Sunday 24th May the Men played for the Norman Stone Trophy.  The winner was John Dingwall (13) with 65, Allan Bantick (11) was second with 67 and Roy Quinn (14) was third with 70.

Week Commencing 11th May 2009

On Monday the Ladies SLGA Broach competition was won by Pamela McLeod (35) with a score of 72, Dorothy McDonald (14) was second with 74 bih and Maureen Thomas (20) was third, also with 74.  The putting competition was won by Dorothy McDonald.
On Thursday the Seniors 9-hole Stableford was won by Aileen Morgan with 24 points.
On Sunday 17th May, in glorious sunshine, 27 Ladies and Gents contested the Fowler Cup.  Winner was Hannah McCook (6) with 65, Kevin Strathdee (6) was second with 66 and Bob Mitchell (10) was third with 67.  Hannah's gross score of 71 equalled her own Ladies Course Record

Week Commencing 4th May 2009

On Mon 4th May the Ladies played their Extra Medal competition.  The winner was Dawn Ferguson (12) with 72, runner up was Elizabeth Sloan (18) with 73 and Heather Bantick (27) was 3rd with 74.
On Weds 6th the Men played their Badenoch and Strathspey League match against Carrbridge Golf Club at Carrbridge and lost narrowly 2.5 to 3.5.
The Seniors weekly Stableford on Thurs 7th was won by Kate Wright with 20 points.
On Sun 10th May the Men played a Stableford competition for the Bob Douglas Trophy.  The winner was John McCook (7) with 40 points.  John's gross score of 70 established a new Junior Course Record improving by one stroke on the previous record held by John's sister Hannah.  Runner up was Jim O'Hara (11) with 37 points bih and 3rd was Charlie MacDonald (16) also with 37 points.

Week Commencing 27th April 2009

On Mon 27th the Ladies played a nine-hole Stableford competition - the winner was Kate Wright with 19 points.
On Weds the Ladies played a match against Carrbridge Ladies at Carrbridge.  The result was a 2 -2 draw.
On Thurs the Seniors Stableford was won by Ann Robbie with 21 points.
On Sun 3rd May 22 men competed for the May Medal.   The winner was Gordon Philip (17) with a nett 61, Peter Strathdee (24) was second with 62 and his brother Andrew (19) was third with 67.

Week Commencing 20th April 2009

On Monday the ladies Extra Medal was won by Ena Meldrum (20) nett 68 and Gillian Mitchell (13) was runner up with a nett 70.   The seniors played their 9 hole Stableford on Thurs and Jane Kerr sustained her winning streak with 26 points.  On Friday the Junior Medal was won by John Rutlege (24) with a nett 67.  Sunday saw the men and ladies playing for the Nethybridge Hotel Trophy and the winner was Stan Morgan (26) nett 63 bih, runner up was Bob Mitchell (10) also with 63 and Allan Bantick (11) was third with 68.

Week Commencing 13th April 2009

On Monday, the ladies 9-hole 2-club competition was won by Helen Fraser (36) with a net 40.    Thursday's Senior Stableford was again won by Jane Kerr, this time equalled by husband David both scoring 23 points.   On Saturday, the first open of the season, a Mixed Greensomes was won by John Darlington (17) from Kilspindie and wife Liz Darlington (34) from Castle Park with net 57.4.   Runners-up were home players Ian Murray (6) and Moira Calder (28) with net 50.4 and in third place were Andrew Strathdee (20) and Sheila Grant (30) net 62 also from Abernethy.   The prizes were presented by Stuart and Rene Pountney who donated the trophy.

On Sunday, the men played the Helensburgh Shield Stableford.    The winner was Charles Grant (22) with 41 points.  Juniors Jamie Bissett (14) and Andrew Strathdee (20) both scored 39 pts with Jamie taking the runner-up place on countback.

Week Commencing Monday 6th April

17 ladies contested the first medal of the season on Monday.  Dawn Ferguson (12) won with nett 73, Maureen Campbell (31) was second with 76 bih and Elizabeth Sloan (18) was third also with 76.

The first mens trophy of 2009, the Speyside Sports Trophy, also attracted 17 players and was contested in beautiful sunshine.  The trophy was won by defending champion Malcolm McCreath (13) with a nett 65, Allan Bantick (11) was second with 66 bih and Ian Murray (6) was third also with 66.

On Thursday the Seniors Stableford was won by Jane Kerr with 24 points.

Week Commencing Monday 30th March

The week began with the Ladies Hidden Hole competition in which Margaret Smith and Heather Bantick were joint winners.  On Thursday 2nd April Stan Morgan won the first Seniors Stableford of the season.  On Sunday 5th April the first Mens Medal of the season was won by John Dingwall (13) with a nett 66.   Runner up was J.Haydn Hughes (20) nett 67 bih and third was Peter Strathdee (25) also with a nett 67.

On Sunday 29th March the season opened with the traditional match between the Captain and Lady Captain.   This year the Lady Captain triumphed by a narrow margin.   It was touch and go whether the event would go ahead because of heavy snow the previous day but eventually the greens staff permitted play on a course reduced to 16 holes.  Our caterers Kevin and Mairi provided a splendid meal of soup and sandwiches after the match.
